High school is the most beautiful period of time in our life. It is remarked by not only high academic achievements but memorable extra-curricular activities as well. On a yearly basis, Ngo Quyen high school organizes many activities varying in different areas in order to forge the bonds between students and create a healthful playground after school. In the beginning of 2018, an English contest named “Culture Discovery”, in which students had a chance to dig deep into foreign cultures, attracted quite a great number of participants.
The contest covered different fields of foreign cultures, consisting of cuisines, costumes, art and poems. Therefore, contestants had a wide range of choices to demonstrate their performances creatively such as: dancing, singing, lecturing or even staging a play. Besides learning about culture of foreign countries, the students stood a chance to improve English speaking skills in public. They were also encouraged to develop critical thinking skills towards given debate questions and know how to support their teammates effectively.

Despite being a brand-new idea, the competition turned out to be a huge success. It drew a lot of attention from both students and teachers. The school managing board also appreciated the value of this contest as it brought many advantages for mental development. Moreover, this was also a chance for students to show off their talents and strengthen friendship. This success of this contest was not only in school since it received the great support and funds from an educational company. To the organizers, the competition was an experience and challenge to look for talents in English field.
This competition impressed the audience with the participants’ creative ablity and the enthusiasm of youth. It is now a great motivation for students to learn English. Although the contest was over, I believe that it was really an unforgettable school activity and, certainly, “Culture Discovery” will come back next year.
